Southampton win BUSA Smallbore 2008Southampton made it 5 BUSA wins in a row at the championships at Appleton this weekend. With fantastic shooting from Samantha Bull (19 off & ladies winner), and solid shoots from Charlie Asquith (27) and James Paterson(28) (placed 4th and 5th respectively) the team dropped 316 overall.

A. Laurie and C. Jacklin filled 2nd and 3rd place in the individual championship with some exceptional shooting, dropping just 21 and 26 points respectively over the whole day.

Aberdeen took 2nd place in the Octets and Edinburgh a close 3rd, both teams with some good individual performances.

Congratulations also to A Laurie and N Sammels from Aberdeen for winning the pairs competition. James Paterson and Sam Bull took silver and W. Lewis and E. Carter from Cardiff were 3rd.

In the ladies triads, Southampton A took gold, Abderdeen silver and Southampton B placed 3rd. Southampton also won the quartets, with Aberdeen in 2nd and Cardiff placed 3rd.

England romped to victory in the home international, with James forced to grin in front of a St. Georges Cross. He's tried for so many years to be on the winning side bless him! Wink

All in all a fantastic day's shooting - many thanks to Appleton rifle club for running the shoot so efficiently. It was particularly pleasing to welcome back Liverpool Uni this year. We wish them all the best rebuilding their club.

In the postal competitions, Southampton scraped to victory in the knockout competition and inter-university league (Newcastle a very close 2nd).
